Speech Sounds
Is your child’s speech unclear? Do you or others have trouble understanding him? Most children are able to say almost all their sounds correctly by age 4 and are understood by most people. When a child has a speech sound disorder, she may substitute one sound for another, leave out a sound, add a sound, or change how she says the sound, making it come out unclear. Speech sound disorders may also be called articulation disorders or phonological disorders.
If you suspect that your child has a speech sound disorder, we will conduct a thorough evaluation of his ability to say speech sounds in words through conversation. A written report with an individualized treatment plan will be provided to you. Speech therapy sessions for articulation or phonological disorders are typically once to twice a week for 30 minutes or 45 minutes either in person or via teletherapy.
